New CEO to join Causeway

New Ceo Head Shot

We're thrilled to announce that Helen Ball has been appointed as our new CEO.

Helen, who was the former Barnsley Civic Enterprise Trust Chief Executive, will take up her new role at Causeway in November – leaving her current position as Development Director at Leeds Community Foundation, which she has held since 2021.

Helen Ball said: “I am proud and excited to have been chosen as the next Chief Executive Officer for Causeway. The charity delivers such vital support to those most vulnerable, and so often provides the lifeline that unlocks a safer and brighter future for so many. I look forward to building on the incredible success already achieved by the team and working with partners both current and new, to help build and advocate for a fairer and safer society.”

Jennie Oswald, Causeway’s Chair of Trustees, added: “Following a lengthy and robust recruitment programme, we are pleased to announce we will welcome our new CEO this November.  Helen is passionate about people and social change, and we can’t wait to have her on-board to help us develop the positive work and influence of Causeway.

We had an amazing calibre of candidates come forward for the role, and we would like to thank the Causeway staff, and the members of the Lived Experience panel who helped make up our interview board and contributed towards our decision making.  We are thrilled Helen has agreed to take up the role, and we are sure she will lead Causeway forward with confidence, meet its challenges head on, and help us build on everything we have achieved so far.”

The appointment of Helen follows the news announced in May that current CEO, Ed Newton, is leaving Causeway after 11 years with the charity.

On announcement of his departure, Ed Newton said: "It has been a privilege to have been a part of the team creating lasting change for the thousands of people supported by Causeway over the past ten years.  It’s been an amazing journey, and I would like to thank the exceptional team of people, many of whom are now close friends, that I have worked alongside.  To all of our staff, partners, volunteers and trustees, thank you.”
